The LEO group is pleased to welcome Dr. Matteo Genitoni as a new postdoctoral researcher.
After graduating in Chemical Sciences in 2022, Matteo joined LEO as a research fellow, where he began working in organic electronics. His research focused on electrolyte-gated organic transistor (EGOT) sensors for detecting volatile organic compounds, using acetaldehyde as a model target.
Under the supervision of Prof. Biscarini, he subsequently completed his PhD at the Center for Translational Neurophysiology of Speech and Communication of the Italian Institute of Technology, in collaboration with the University of Ferrara.
During his doctoral studies, Matteo developed advanced EGOT-based sensing platforms for biomarkers involved in physiological processes. His work demonstrated that functionalizing active interfaces with polymers and innovative two-dimensional materials, including MXenes, combined with machine-learning-based chemometric tools, can significantly improve device sensitivity and selectivity.
In September 2026, Matteo began his postdoctoral research at LEO. He will develop EGOT sensing platforms for Alzheimer’s disease biomarkers within the FIS-2024 project “HELP – Hierarchical Organic Electronics Sensors for Phenotyping Alzheimer’s and Inflammatory Diseases at the Point of Care” (FIS-2024-05091; CUP E53C25002440001).
Welcome to the team, Matteo!
